Types of Bullying
Physical- When a person uses overt bodily actions to gain power over peers. This type is the easiest to identify because the acts are so obvious.
Physical bullies tend to demonstrate high levels of aggression from a young age and are more likely to be boys.
Examples: Hitting, scratching, kicking, spitting, or any other form of physical attack
Verbal- Verbal bullying occurs when an individual uses language to gain power over peers. The verbal bully is more liable to use relentless insults and teasing. This type of bullying is hard to identify because their attacks only occur when adults are not present.
Examples: Name-calling, making insulting jokes (racism, sexism), teasing, using sexual suggestive or abusive language, and offensive remarks.
Indirect- When someone undermines another individual's reputation through rumors or other gossip within a social group. Indirect bullying can happen at any age. As children grow up it is most likely that they will go from direct bullying (physical and verbal) to indirect bullying.
Examples: Spreading nasty stories about someone, exclusion from a social group, being made the subject of malicious rumors, or sending abusive mail and text messages.
Cyber- Cyber bullying is any form of harassment via the technology. Cyber bullying is a serious problem because it allows the bullies to follow the victims and leaves them feeling helpless and overwhelmed constantly because they cannot get away from it.
There are 7 types of cyber bullying:
1)Text messages
2)Picture/video clips
